Contents Tip of the Week

Have you ever had that, "how did they do that?" moment. Well this week I am going to share a few tips to answer your questions and as always save you time and money.

After a long cold winter of being trapped inside, do you ever notice that the family couch could use a thorough cleaning? Instead of going out and renting an expensive steam cleaner and buying all those chemicals, I have an easier and more cost efficient solution. First, grab a soft brush, a box of baking soda and your vacuum. Pour on a liberal amount of baking soda onto one section at a time and work the soda in gently with a soft haired brush. Let this sit for 5 minutes and then vacuum the section until all the powder is gone. Your old friend will be refreshed and ready for the next movie night or nap.

Now since we are on the topic of couches, what would you do with a leather one? The cushions are showing some age marks or you have a few visible scratches. Do not call that leather guy that will charge you an arm and leg. Simply head down to the corner store for some shoe polish (ensure you have a color match) gently rub this into your couch cushion using a soft cloth. Now here is the important part; You must remove all the excess shoe polish from the couch, just check to see if your cloth is clean and your done.

Another tip for you. You have just cooked an amazing dinner but your frying pan now has burnt on and/or hardened food stuck to it. Don't worry, add 2 cups of water and two cups of vinegar to the pan and bring the pan to a boil then remove it from the heat and let it sit for a few minutes. Then add 3 tablespoons of baking soda and watch the magic. After the pan has cooled, wipe the burn right off the pan. An alternate method would be to use sea salt and scrub away.

Lets talk a moment about glitter; it gets everywhere and sticks to everything. You can vacuum it, you can wipe it, you can even wish this vile creation was never made. So this tip goes out to my old friend Dwayne, next time you get a Christmas gift made of the sparkly stuff, or you're the butt of an evil glitter attack. The solution is simple...use play-dough.
